some nice words for the weekend…

Quiksilver Girls
Quiksilver has been working on this new range for a few years, Bob said.
Roxy has had a lot of success – today it’s over $500 million business – and it appeals to a 12 to 16 year old girl, and her younger sister. The line is bright, colorful and perfect for the girl next door.
For awhile, the company tried to “age up” the brand, but that wasn’t a good fit.
So it came up with Quiksilver Girls for the 16 to 20/24 year old. But because of its debt load and the impacts of the recession, the company wasn’t ready to staff up to create a new line.
So it turned to an outside design team at The Pencil on Paper Studio, headed by John Moore.
That team spent a lot of time at Quiksilver, going through the archives and meeting with people. What they came up with “blew our minds,” Bob said.
“It was so spot on,” he said, and took into account Quiksilver history and what the brand stands for, he said.
Outsourcing design was done first out of necessity, but now Quiksilver is so happy with the results, POP Studio is working on other projects for the company, Bob said.
The response so far to the new Quiksilver Girls in both the U.S. and Europe has been very good, Bob said.

Every Tuesday morning around 9:30 we all get together at the POP studio for a little show 'n tell. The basic premise is that each of us brings in something to inspire the group. There are no rules to what we bring in, but generally you find that the items inspiring us at the moment are also inspiring our projects. We created this POP picture blog to bring you along for the weekly meetings and hope that you find them inspiring too...
