Every Tuesday morning around 9:30 we all get together at the POP studio for a little show 'n tell. The basic premise is that each of us brings in something to inspire the group. There are no rules to what we bring in, but generally you find that the items inspiring us at the moment are also inspiring our projects. We created this POP picture blog to bring you along for the weekly meetings and hope that you find them inspiring too...

Yoshiharu Tsuge
about: Yoshiharu Tsuge was born on the isle of Oshima and raised by his mother. He made his comic debut in 1953 with various creations, like ‘Fukuwajutsushi’ (the story of a ventriloquist) and ‘Nezumi’. His short story ‘Numa’ surprised his public and was praised with enthusiasm by intellectuals. In his pages, he used a sophisticated and personal type of storytelling that intermingled dream with reality. His style influenced a lot of artists, which can be clearly seen in the magazine Garo. His comic credits include ‘Neji-Shiki’ and ‘L’Usine d’Étamage de Oba’.

Sex to Sexty
“Some call it the most vulgar magazine ever made; others see it as the last honest compendium of American sexual humor, starting just as the sexual revolution was expanding minds and stomping taboos, and ending when political correctness made all such humor socially unacceptable. Whatever your stance, the magazine Sex to Sexty was and is an outrageous collection of dirty jokes and cartoons published from 1965 to 1983 by Texas entrepreneur John Newbern, whose life was lifted straight from the pages of his publication. His partner in crime against good taste was hillbilly artist Pierre Davis, who created elaborate oil painted covers for each issue that celebrate every permutation of manly humor…” source
